新西蘭本地的勞工市場對于IT專業(yè)的人才需求非常大，目前是排名最高的。IT專業(yè)的需求是最多的，占到所有行業(yè)的15%。IT行業(yè)是新西蘭政府官方公布的新西蘭長期短缺行業(yè)之一，從新西蘭移民政策中可以看出，計(jì)算機(jī)從業(yè)人員的確是該國長期以來一直缺乏的技術(shù)工種。學(xué)生畢業(yè)后擁有優(yōu)厚的移民加分，并且移民率非常之高。
ICT(Information Technology & Communication)則一直出現(xiàn)在長期短缺加分的名單中，并且沒有任何工作經(jīng)驗(yàn)，職位以及年薪的要求，只需符合Level 7等級的學(xué)歷要求，即可獲得長期短缺10分的加分。
